"Why do I need Calcium pills, Ma?"

"Because you're a growing boy, Zell. Now stop complaining and take them."

"But why do I need to take them everyday? Aren't I tall enough?"

"Because it's a daily supplement, silly. Now be a good boy and take it."

It's not fair. After all the Wada Calcium CD3 pills I've taken as a kid, I'm still not very tall. In fact, shorter than Squall, who I'm sure never took a calcium pill in his life.

I guess I have what you call the short-person syndrome. Damn.

The blond martial artist shadowboxed in the corner of the room, punting out some unseen frustrations. Squall frowned at him. It wasn't abnormal to see Zell shadowboxing randomly, but it didn't mean that he could ignore it wholeheartedly.

"Hey Squall," Zell asked, abruptly stopping in his tracks.

"What," Squall responded.

"Just curious, what did you eat when you were growing up?"

Squall raised an eyebrow at the question. Of all the stupid things he's been asked before, this had to have outdone the rest.

"No really, it was just on my mind, was wondering how you got so tall..."

"Why don't you ask Seifer," Squall nearly snapped.

"Seifer!? Why would I ask him!" Zell retorted.

He's taller than all of us, that's why, you idiot, Squall thought.

"Oh right, fine. Don't tell me then!" Zell fumed and returned to shadowboxing even harder.

Squall just stared at him for a few moments until Zell felt paranoid.

"What?" Zell stopped, placing his hands on his hips. The brunette noticed that he wasn't even the slightest out of breath.

"Why do you do that so much?"

"Do what? Oh, shadowbox?" The frown slid off his face, replaced by a feral grin. "It feels good, that's why."

"Oh." Squall pondered this for a moment, but couldn't imagine himself shadowboxing to feel good, or so Zell said.

"Okay I answered your question, now answer mine!"

Squall stared at Zell incredulously. He shouldn't have let his curiosity get the better of him.

"I didn't eat anything special, if that's what you're asking," Squall sighed.

"Man! That sucks! I guess I couldn't beat my genetics." The blonde made one final hit then shook his arms loose, sighing.

"Why do you want to be taller anyway," Squall asked.

"More questions?" Zell grinned and made Squall flinch. "Well, it's hard to find a girlfriend, being short, I guess."

"A girlfriend?" Squall said it as if it was in a foreign language.

"Yeah... heh, I know it sounds stupid. Forget I said that then," Zell looked downward.

"Hey, one more question then," Squall said immediately.

"Sure, why not," Zell looked up again.

"How about a guy?"

Eyes widened, Zell nearly stumbled backwards. "What about a guy?"

Squall sighed. There was no getting through to this guy without actually doing something, was there. He took a step forward, usually too close for his own comfort, and leaned into Zell's lips.

Surprising himself, Zell didn't push him away or do anything at all. He just stood there, accepting.

When the two separated, Squall had nothing to say, and it seemed like Zell didn't either.

Well, that was a big mistake, Squall thought to himself, but at least there was nobody else around and Zell wasn't the type to tell anyone.

"I guess I wouldn't mind being shorter if it were a guy," Zell grinned as usual, and Squall was a little baffled as to how well he was taking it. "Now my turn, why me?"

"Do I really have to answer that," Squall grumbled.

Then Zell started laughing, and Squall found himself unable to contain his smile.

Calcium pills or not, what came naturally had the best turnout anyway.
