Notes: My one-shot ended up very open ended, but I don't think I'm going to continue it.

"Hara-heta..."

SMACK!

"Itai--!!! Sanzo- why do you always have to hit me???"

"Urusai."

Goku rubbed his head, ruffling his hair back and forth for a good amount of time until his stomach rumbled again. "Hara-"

SMACK!!

"Sanzo!!!" the seemingly-teenage boy stood up in the backseat of the jeep and bellowed.

"Urusai!"

The redhead had fallen asleep sometime during the afternoon, and despite the clamour, he remained asleep. At the wheel, Hakkai had grown used to the bantering although he would sometimes try to keep the peace; however, he had been driving for nearly twelve hours straight now in the desert and didn't wish to aggravate himself any further.

The abusive exchange lasted until they finally arrived at the town of Sansui. Ah what a relief, a quaint little area with a hot spring. Well, an oasis anyway. Ten o'clock at night, after Hakuryuu collapsed into Hakkai's arms upon arrival, the party checked in at the Sansui inn.

"Welcome to Sansui, travelers," greeted an unusually alert teenage girl who stood behind the front desk.

"Good evening," Hakkai responded with a weary smile, approaching the blue-haired lady at the desk. "Do you have four vacancies?"

The girl shook her head but smiled. "No, only two. Each of the rooms have two beds though, is that all right?"

"That would be great, we'll take the two rooms."

As soon as Hakkai said that, the redhead slid forward and took the girl's hand from the table top.

"What about your room, Ojou-chan? Are there two beds in there too?"

The girl sweatdropped noticeably as Hakkai swat away Gojyo's hand all while still smiling.

"Please sign up a name per room, here," she pulled out a simple wooden clipboard from under the counter.

"Hai-hai," the green-eyed man bowed slightly and wrote out his own name in an empty slot, and Sanzo's in the other.

-----

Gojyo ended up rooming with Hakkai, as the other man would simply not allow the redhead to assault the females in the inn. In the room across the hallway, Sanzo quickly busied himself with a pack of cigarettes and the day's newspapers. They were all so tired that they forgot to eat, or rather, forgot to feed Goku.

"HARA-HETA!!!! Goku sat bouncing up and down in front of of Sanzo, his head appearing and disappearing over Sanzo's view of the newspapers.

"Go outside and get yourself something then," the monk replied and took a draft from the cigarette loosely dangling between his index and middle fingers.

"Sanzo let's go get food!" the boy whined.

"Go by yourself."

"Sanzo~!"

The monk was about to have an aneurysm. Of course, the smoking didn't help much, but he didn't care. "Fine fine, what do you want to eat?" the blonde demanded, smacking his newspapers down on the desk and standing up.

Goku's face brightened up and he hopped off his chair, bounding for the door already. "Meat! Noodles too, and meat!"

Sanzo sighed. There was only so much whining he could resist before he either resorted to violence or gave in. The saru did have a point afterall, none of them had eaten a bite in over seventeen hours.

Moments later, Goku had aroused their two other companions, looking disheveled from lack of sleep, and dragged them all to the kitchen, only to find it deserted. No sign of life in the near proximity, and no food whatsoever.

Hakkai and Gojyo glanced suspiciously about the room, checking the empty cupboards for anything at all. Sanzo stood around and stared out into the hallway, and Goku cried for his stomach, frantically opening and closing the refridgerator over and over again. Yet, nothing.

"What's going on here, why is there no food in the kitchen at all?" Gojyo grumbled as he turned some pots and pans over.

"This is certainly strange. I thought something was strange when the only person we saw since we arrived was the lady at the front desk," Hakkai glanced about and looked at Sanzo, hoping for his insight.

Sanzo was not amused at Goku's whining, which was growing louder and more anxious by the second. "If we walked into some youkai's trap, we should have noticed by now," he spoke agitatedly as his temples throbbed from trying to ignore the monkey's voice.

"That's true.. I didn't feel any malicious intent when we got here, but this is sure weird," the monocled man said. "Let's check out the front desk again."

But nobody was there either.

The four wandered the hallways checking for any signs of life, but found none, not even the girl from earlier in the evening. It was nearly two o'clock now, and the boys were too tired to search any further. All the other rooms they checked were locked and nobody within stirred. Although it might have seemed like a bad idea to return to their rooms, they had no other choice. Hakuryuu was dead asleep back in Hakkai and Gojyo's room, and they were pretty much otherwise stranded in the middle of a desert.

Back in their room, Sanzo sat upright, leaning against the back of his bed, trying to stay awake as to avoid any possible ambush in their unpredictable situation. Goku rolled over and over on his bed, trying to soothe his aching stomach by talking to himself about delicious, steaming pork buns and neverending plates of homecooked food.

Finally, his stomach let out an incredibly loud roar that even stirred Sanzo.

"Ha..ra.. he..ta..." Goku sat up and sniffled, his wobbly eyes fixed on Sanzo, pleading for food although there was none.

"Urusai," the blonde grumbled, feeling the acid gnawing in his own stomach. "There's nothing I can do about it."

"Sanzo...." the brunette got off his bed, looking a bit mindless and empty, and staggered over to the monk's bed.

"What do you want."

"Hara-heta," the boy responded, sitting next to Sanzo.

The monk brought his fan down on Goku's head again, only to have his hand caught in midair by a sullen-faced Goku.

"Tch.."

"Sanzo."

"What."

"I want you."

"WHAT?"

Goku didn't respond, and for once, he swiftly pushed Sanzo's arm up against the back of the bed and leaned centimeters away from Sanzo's face.

"Hakkai and Gojyo probably aren't hungry, why can't you feed me too?"

"What are you talking about???" the blonde growled. Never had Goku ever acted forcefully against him, and by God, he would've never thought the boy was so strong.

"It's not fair! They don't have to go hungry but we do! Why? Besides Sanzo, what do you think I am?" Goku's voice sounded a bit watery.

"What are you talking about???" he repeated in the same tone.

"Am I just your pet? Do you respect me Sanzo? Sanzo.. Sanzo.. I.. I love you. Don't you know that?"

The hunger must be getting to his head, Sanzo thought. This was beyond weird, even the empty kitchen and the vacant town seemed normal about now.

Then Goku leaned in and kissed Sanzo full on the lips, lapping hungrily at his lips first then the inside of his mouth. All thoughts escaped from Sanzo's mind except the shock that was ringing throughout his head, yet he did not have the heart to bite Goku. Or reject his kisses.

Goku never imagined anything like this would happen, nor would he have acted out on it anyway on a normal basis, but his hunger was seriously overtaking his sanity. He was surprised as Sanzo slowly but surely relaxed under his grip and kisses. Goku let go of Sanzo's upheld arm, instead encircling his own arms around the monk's neck, and brought the blonde's head closer still.

Perhaps Sanzo was losing his mind too, because he couldn't remember how he ended up in this position nor why he was still going along with it. His senses were overwhelmed by the boy's eager kisses and how sweet he tasted. Sweet, although it was mostly a mixed flavour of meat and flour, but yet a sweet tangy flavour lingered. Sanzo found himself not only kissing Goku in return but doing his fair share of sucking at the other's mouth.

A minute passed although it felt like eternity before Goku broke off their lip contact. He blinked and bit his lip, looking Sanzo in the eyes. There seemed to be no response in his violet eyes.

"Why," he demanded in a low tone, but a surprisingly soft one.

"Because you saved me."

"If you're referring to the stone cage in the mountain," Sanzo paused, hoping the memory wouldn't shatter the boy, "You saved yourself. I was merely there."

"No... You freed me. I can never thank you enough, so I followed you. I don't remember any of my past before you, and I don't care. All I know is that I want to be with you wherever you go."

"And you think that's love?"

"Not exactly, but," Goku sat back down, and looked away from Sanzo's eyes. "I just do."

"Goku.." Sanzo glanced briefly at the door then back at the boy, realizing that he had started crying. "Goku," he reached over and gently lifted Goku's chin to face him. "I know."

Goku's eyes quivered then shut, squeezing the tears from his eyes, and blinked open, looking up at Sanzo's smile. Smile? He hasn't seen that since.. when? He couldn't remember when Sanzo ever smiled at him but it looked all too familiar. The calmness of his slight smile that welcomed him and brought light into his world.

"You.. do?" he inquired slowly, wondering if this was real.

"Yes, baka saru," and he ruffled the boy's hair, making him smile and snuggle closer. "And I you," he whispered.

But Goku didn't hear his last words. He was already too happy that Sanzo understood how he felt, and he snuggled against Sanzo's chest, almost purring like a kitten. The blonde knew that feelings between them needn't be said, but he also knew that Goku needed reassurance. The two forgot about their hunger as they fell asleep wrapped up in each other's warmth.
